Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 1 must be used with Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 2 using bristle brushes included with kit to achieve best results. Rinse brushes thoroughly after every use

1. Wear protective gloves. Apply Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 1 directly to wet deck. Use bristle brush to spread evenly across area to be treated. When the treated area darkens to a uniform dark brown, use coarse bristle brush to scrub wood. Avoid contact with painted or varnished surfaces. Rinse brushes after use.

2. Next, use bristle brush to spread Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 2 uniformly over the treated area, then use coarse bristle brush to loosen and remove dirt. The treated area will lighten to a golden brown. Rinse treated area thoroughly with water.

1. Wear protective gloves. Use water to dilute Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 1 to an approximately 50% solution. Use bristle brush to spread evenly over area to be treated. When the treated area darkens to a uniform dark brown, use medium bristle brush to scrub lightly. Avoid contact with painted or varnished surfaces. Rinse brushes thoroughly after use.

2. Next, use water to dilute Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 2 to an approximately 50% solution, then use bristle brush to spread uniformly over treated area. Use soft bristle brush to scrub lightly to attain a uniform light color. Rinse treated area thoroughly.

When the treated area is completely dry, the deck will look like it has been freshly sanded.

Immediately rinse off any drips, spills or splatters of Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 1 on painted or varnished surfaces, aluminum, fiberglass or any surface other than teak. Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 1 may damage paint or varnish if not immediately removed. Rinse brushes after each use.

To help avoid drips, spills or splatter onto painted or varnished surfaces adjacent to teak being treated, apply Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 1 with a paint brush. Spray a mist of water on any areas which have dried before applying Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formula No. 2.

Snappy™ Teak-Nu™ Formulas Nos. 1 and 2 can be used on bare mahogany before refinishing to remove discolorations without bleaching the wood.

Steps and Ideas

Make sure your teak is wet before attempting to apply Snappy on it, I relate it to waxing a car on a sun-filled 100-degree day in mid-afternoon. Here is a little hint that can help if you are working in an area with aluminum in close proximity as in steps. Putting some petroleum jelly on the aluminum will protect it from the chemicals used in Snappy Teak-Nu cleaners. Now that your deck and surrounding areas are wet you can either pour some on by the quart bottle or, my favorite is, to pour it in a plastic pail. I don’t suggest you use a gallon to pour from, too messy, use them to refill your empty quart bottles! If the teak is not too badly soiled you can dilute it with water; if you are using a pail, I only recommend up to 4 to 1 dilution ratio with water. Put your rubber gloves and goggles on and use either the matching supplied brush or a white 3M cleaning pad. I prefer to clean in a more circular motion as opposed to back and forth, it is easier on the soft particles of the wood called chafing. When the wood becomes black and tarry-like, let it sit on there for just a couple of minutes while you rinse out your bucket and do exactly the same thing for the number 2 formula, the same dilution. Keep all those surrounding areas wet and free from possible runoff. If you used the brushes then you now use the color-matched brush and do the same thing. If you use a 3M pad, make sure you rinse it before using the brightener. Since Snappy is a 2-part cleaner there is an acid and a base, which means that they will neutralize one another if the brushes are mixed or the pad not cleaned. If you rinse between Snappy 1 and 2, don’t flood the wood. Remember: Number 2 has to go in all the nooks and crannies the Number 1 did in order to neutralize it! Now, that you are finished, you can rinse everything. If you would like to put a sealer or coating on your deck then now is the time to be patient. A good time to put your coating on is between 24 and 48 hours. It takes roughly 24 hours for teak to dry thoroughly and after 48 the fibers tend to close back up and it doesn't take the coating as well. If you want the technical version of this then buy the bottle and just read the label.

Snappy Teak FAQ

Why Snappy Teak-Nu?

It’s simply the best. Used by Yacht builders around the world as well as professional boat yards. Nothing can compare in effort and ease of use.

What’s in Snappy Teak-Nu?

Acids and bases plus some other inorganic chemicals which are a trade secret.

Is it safe for the boat?

Yes. If used properly and with caution, keeping all surfaces wet, it is very safe. You may have to address the chattering which can occur with Snappy Teak-Nu but just as easy with rain or sun or scrubbing.

How do I protect metals from the formula.

Coat metals with petroleum jelly before using Snappy Teak-Nu.

Doesn’t Snappy Teak-Nu strip the natural oils?

Yes, a little bit. Teak is a very oily wood and can tolerate the use of Snappy Teak-Nu. A couple of times a year is all that is recommended and in the meantime it can be used in a diluted form safely.

Is it environmentally safe?

If formula number 2 is applied over number 1, both chemicals are neutralized and a salt is produced.

How long will it last?

In their environment, 5-6 weeks before it begins a slight but very even and natural deterioration.
